*Cue the sad reflective OOOHWOOAHWOAHH OHH YEAHH YEA YEAHH from Hannah Montana as she leaves her childhood home in the last episode and things back in reflection*

Omfg I cant believe we’re actually almost done. It is crazy to think this is the last blog post and our last class will be tomorrow. I am honestly very proud of myself for accomplishing as much as I did this semester as It definitely was challenging at times. As I mentioned in my first blog post, I had a very opne mind and limited expectations entering this course but I was pleasantly surprised by how much I learned, contemplated and explored throughout the semester. It not only has changed my perception of literature but I guess in some ways of myself as well :))

I loved how every books as different in it’s own way and each one had different themes, stories and lessons to teach us. My favourite book of the semester would have to be “The Trenchcoat”. I also really liked “The Book of Chameleons” but “The Trenchcoat” takes the cake for me I think. I honestly just loved the mystery of it the most. For me, I love consuming media and literature that is very mystery based it has always been a genre that stands out for me. I usually lean towards a murder mystery and while this stroy wasn’t really that, it definitely had the elements of one. I think because im a sociology major I also really liked the whole historical aspect of it and framing the story in the lens of a totalitarian regime and thinking of the societal factors that created the themes of fear and confusion within the story and among the characters. I think my least favourite book would probably be the last one we read, “Faces in the Crowd”. While the story itself was interesting and the writing style super super unique, it was honestly just more confusing than enjoyable for me. I think there were a couple confusing books this semester but this one was just a little hard to comprehend for my silly little brain LOL. It definitely got me thinking but I would still say I have the least amount of connection and fondness for the book.

I think the course really allowed me to reflect on parts of myself especially with themes such as memory, identity and development being constant themes throughout the semester. It really allowed me to reflect on my life and all of my experiences from growing up in Abbotsford to moving across the world to live in Amsterdam and then back in Vancouver again.

In my intro blog post I honestly just wanted to improve my understanding of Romance Studies because I had never taken a RMST course previously and I think it definitely has been successful in that. It also really developed my relationship with reading and im excited to try and get back into reading for fun again!

This chapter is finally ending and it’s definitely bittersweet. This class was so unique from any other class I’ve taken and It stands out a lot in terms of my university career. Im sure I’ll look back on this on my future studies, readings and possibly even my travels to foreign countries.

Overall, I really enjoyed the course and I will definitely consider another RMST course for one of my electives next year in my final year of undergrad!

TO YOU READING THIS – thank you for being a part of my blogging era this semester, whether you’re reading to grade me or as a fellow reader in our class, I appreciate you reading my posts and leaving comments!

Hi! So sad we are at the end :((( Putting the Hannah Montana sound bits as the title is so funny, good job !!

I definitely want to go back and read any of the books I haven’t yet! Especially The Trenchcoat, the way you described it made it sound very interesting!

  3. Hi! First of all, I love the title — I also love my meme references. Secondly, it’s great to hear another person that’s excited to get back into reading for leisure! I feel the same in that sense but I also know that it’ll take a bit more time for me.
